Woman With MS Shown the Door22 February 2005HALIFAX, Nova Scotia -- As reported by Halifax Herald: "A woman who suffers from multiple sclerosis says she was asked to leave the Halifax casino Friday night because an employee believed she was drunk. "Noella Brosha, 48, of Heatherton, Antigonish County, was in Dartmouth last week with her friend Brenda Gould and Ms. Gould's sister from New Brunswick. After dinner in Halifax, the trio decided to visit the casino to play the slot machines. "...She said they played the quarter machines for a while, then moved on to the nickel games before she was approached by a male employee. "...She said the man told her she was slurring her speech and appeared to be intoxicated. But Ms. Brosha said she'd only had two beer, which she nursed while playing the slots for more than two hours. "...She said she explained her medical condition to the man and pointed out that she often slurs her words or has trouble walking. But he still insisted she had to go. "'Needless to say, I wasn't too impressed, so I just turned around and left,' Ms. Brosha said. "...When contacted Monday, Kelly Ryder, manager of communications for Casino Nova Scotia, said she couldn't comment specifically on Ms. Brosha's case. But she did explain the guidelines their employees follow in such situations. "She said Section 50, Article 14(d) of the Nova Scotia Liquor Control Act does not permit any person who is or appears to be under the influence of liquor to be on the premises..." |
