Woman Is Killed by Gunfire at a Brooklyn Club

1 November 2004

NEW YORK -- As reported by the New York Times: "A woman was shot fatally yesterday morning in the Bensonhurst section of Brooklyn during an argument in what appeared to be a gambling and after-hours club, the police and witnesses said.

"The woman, Susan Boyce, 40, of 2105 70th Street in Bay Ridge, was shot about 6:48 a.m., at 1739 West Seventh Street in the 62nd Precinct, the police said. She was taken to Coney Island Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, they said.

"The police said Ms. Boyce and another woman were arguing with another patron of the club when he pulled a gun and fired, striking Ms. Boyce in the back of the head. Investigators believe the shooter might have been aiming for the other woman and shot Ms. Boyce accidentally, the police said. There were no arrests yesterday.

"Detectives and police officers hauled a gambling table, with a dealing shoe and several packs of cigarettes on it, out of the street-level club yesterday afternoon. Video gambling machines could be seen inside, along with a pool table, a jukebox and bar stools. The club was later sealed by the Police Department..."
