Woman Blames Casino For $5 Million Fraud

AUSTRALIA – As reported by Australia Age: "A bank supervisor charged with defrauding the Bendigo Bank of more than $5 million claims she was "seduced" by Crown Casino's loyalty program.

"Kate Jamieson, 39, of Lalor, told police she began stealing money from her employer after she became a member of the casino's VIP room.

"In a statement tendered yesterday in the Melbourne Magistrates Court, Jamieson told police she started to 'gamble heavily because of the things I could get or what they would give me'.

"…Police alleged Jamieson, who was also a loans officer, created false identities between 2001 and 2004 to steal more than $5 million from the bank's Preston branch. The identities were used to create false accounts so she could withdraw the cash.

"Jamieson is also alleged to have used the bank's computer system illegally, using other workers' passwords to log on while they took breaks…"
