Wisconsin Tribe Willing to Renegotiate Gaming Compact

MADISON, Wisconsin – As reported by the Associated Press: "The Forest County Potawatomi Indian tribe would be willing to renegotiate the types of games it offers at its Milwaukee casino if asked by Gov. Jim Doyle to do so, the tribe's attorney general says.

"But Jeff Crawford said Tuesday that, if that happens, the state can expect lower payments under the terms of gambling compacts being renegotiated.

"…But Dan Leistikow, a spokesman for Doyle, said the governor will probably not ask tribes to renegotiate those games unless a federal court orders it.

"…Steven Biskupic, U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, said Tuesday that the tribe cannot continue to offer Las Vegas-style games if it does not make the payment…"
