Wisconsin Governor Wants Tribal Casino Payment

WISCONSIN – As reported by the United Press International: "Wisconsin Gov. Jim Doyle is negotiating with the Ho-Chunk Nation to get $30 million in revenue promised the state from the tribe's gambling operations.

"The 6,400-member Indian tribe operates four gambling venues in Wisconsin, including a casino in the Wisconsin Dells resort area and a popular bingo hall in Madison.

"The casinos and bingo earned an estimated $100 million last year.

"However, the tribe last month announced it was restructuring to avoid bankruptcy, and said it doesn't have to pay the $30 million the state is counting on to cover a budget shortfall…"
