Wisconsin casino proposal enters final step

WISCONSIN – As reported by the Beloit Daily News: "The final road to a federal approval for the Beloit Casino Complex is still a little foggy, but it doesn't appear there will be any major road blocks standing in the proposal's way.

"A delegation of Stateline Area officials and St. Croix and Bad River tribal representatives met with Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) Director of Indian Gaming George Skibine, at the Department of Interior in Washington, D.C. Wednesday, to discuss the future of the project.

"…[Beloit City Manager Larry] Arft said the tribes clearly articulated the quality of the application, the economic need of the two tribes and the higher than average unemployment rate in Beloit, and Skibine's response was that all three of those factors speak well for the application paperwork. Skibine expects the application to be reviewed by his office and forwarded on to the next level within the next 60 days, Arft said…"
