Wisconsin Anti-Casino Coalition Rallies17 February 2004WISCONSIN – As reported by the Capital Times: "The forces opposing a casino at the DeJope bingo hall brought out the big guns today, with liberal and conservative, current and former elected officials sharing one stage while urging Dane County residents to vote no on Tuesday's referendum. "'We have stalwart Republicans to staunch Democrats,' said Dane County Board Chairman Kevin Kesterson at a news conference this morning at the Monona Public Library. "…Those in attendance included Madison Mayor Dave Cieslewicz and former Mayor Paul Soglin, together for the first time since last year's mayoral race, former Mayor Joel Skornicka, Monona Mayor Robb Kahl, Middleton Mayor Doug Zwank and Sun Prairie Mayor Dave Hanneman. "…Cieslewicz said Madison officials have still not received the needed documentation from the Ho-Chunk Nation that would guarantee the enforceability of the city's agreement with the tribe. Under the city's agreement with the Ho-Chunk, negotiated in November, Ho-Chunk promises to make annual payments of about $3.5 million to the city if a casino is sited at DeJope…" |
