Winning $214.7 Million Powerball Ticket Sold in Delaware

12 October 2004

DELAWARE – (PRESS RELEASE) -- Some lucky Powerball player from Delaware has more than 200 million reasons to celebrate this morning. That's because that person has the one winning ticket worth $214.7 million.

The $214.7 million jackpot ranks as the sixth largest Powerball jackpot ever, and the tenth largest lottery jackpot all-time. It also ranks as the 5th largest jackpot ever won by a single ticket.

The winner will now have to decide between the 29-year, 30-payment annuity and the cash option worth $116.9 million. The winner will have 60 days after their ticket is validated to make that decision.

In addition to the jackpot winner, 1,734,495 other Powerball players across the nation won a total of more than $12.7 million in cash prizes.

This 16-draw jackpot run started with the Wednesday, August 18 drawing. During this run, over 10.1 million Powerball players across the nation won a total of more than $82.7 million in non-jackpot cash prizes.

The numbers drawn were: 1, 3, 10, 47, 48 and the Powerball was 27. The Power Play multiplier was 3.

Seventeen players correctly matched the 5 white numbers and won $100,000. The tickets were sold in Colorado, Connecticut (3), DC, Indiana (2), Kentucky, Minnesota, Missouri, New Mexico, Pennsylvania (3), South Carolina, Tennessee, and Wisconsin. Three additional match 5 players also purchased the Power Play option. The Power Play winning tickets were purchased in Colorado, Nebraska, and Tennessee. Because those three players spent the extra dollar, they multiplied their prize by 3 for a total win of $300,000.

A total of 111 players matched 4 white numbers plus the Powerball and won $5,000. Eleven additional players of match 4+1 purchased the Power Play option, giving them a total win of $15,000.

More than 140,000 winning Powerball players multiplied their prize by 3 Saturday. They were able to do that by purchasing the Power Play option for one dollar. With Power Play you can multiply your winnings, except for the jackpot.

Players purchased more than 68.1 million tickets between Thursday and Saturday night.

The lotteries sold more than $2.2 billion in Powerball tickets in FY04. That translates into more than $660 million for worthwhile state projects.

The jackpot for the Wednesday, October 13 drawing will be $10 million with a cash option of $5.4 million.

Powerball is now played in 27 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
