Wichita Group Supports Casino Idea27 April 2004WICHITA, Kansas – As reported by the Wichita Eagle: "A study commissioned by a downtown Wichita business group indicates that a casino downtown would generate 1,150 jobs and nearly $200 million in economic impact per year. "Based on the study, Wichita Downtown Development Corp.' s board of directors voted to endorse the idea of locating a casino in downtown Wichita. "…Members of the development corporation unveiled the $35,000 study on Monday. The Greater Wichita Convention and Visitors Bureau also helped fund the study. "…The Legislature is considering a bill that calls for up to five destination casinos in Kansas, plus slot machines at pari-mutuel racetracks and at veterans and fraternal clubs. Under that bill, Sedgwick County voters would have to approve a casino before one could be built here…" |
