West Virginia Video Lottery Moratorium to be Enacted

PARKERSBURG, West Virginia – As reported by the (West Virginia) News and Sentinel: "Wood County commissioners are expected to act Monday on proposed amendments to the county's video lottery moratorium initially enacted Feb. 5.

"The suggested amendments would include making the moratorium effective for 90 days, and specifying distance requirements between the mini-casinos and schools, churches, recreation areas, and private residences among other entities.

"When initially enacted, the moratorium was to be "temporary" but no specific time limit was placed on it, commissioners said only the action was taken pending further action by the county commission or Legislature. It covered only new establishments, not ones already in process.

"The commissioners said they would not issue building permits for construction of new video lottery businesses in the unincorporated areas and notified the Alcohol Beverage Control Commission that they had issued the moratorium…"
