West Virginia tracks want to open 24hrs30 August 2007WHEELING, West Virginia -- As reported by the Wheeling Intelligencer: "Local racetrack officials don't want to stop a hot poker game in action just because the clock strikes 4 a.m. "The state's four racetracks presently are asking the West Virginia Lottery Commission for permission to stay open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, in light of upcoming table gambling at tracks in Ohio, Hancock and Kanawha counties. Charles Town Races and Slots in Jefferson County also is asking to remain open though there will be no table gambling there. "Both the Wheeling Island Racetrack and Gaming Center and Mountaineer Race Track and Gaming Resort presently are open from 7 a.m. until 4 a.m. daily, and video gambling machines automatically shut down at 4 a.m. There also are shortened hours at Charles Town and at Tri-State Racetrack and Gaming Center in Charleston. "Competing gambling operations in Pennsylvania are open around the clock. "The State Lottery Commission foresees allowing the tracks to stay open, but won't grant its permission until computer systems are changed and table gambling regulators are trained, said spokeswoman Nancy Bulla..." |
