West Virginia table games approved

WEST VIRGINIA -- As reported by the Pittsburgh Tribune Review: "The West Virginia Lottery Commission gave final approval Wednesday for both Northern Panhandle casinos to begin offering table games to gamblers. Wheeling Island Racetrack and Gaming Resort and Mountaineer Race Track & Gaming Resort near Chester will start table games Friday.

"Operators of the two casinos and racetracks, each about an hour's drive from Pittsburgh, said last month they've lost nearly $22 million in gross revenue since gamblers started playing slots in Pennsylvania in June.

"...West Virginia Lottery officials and casino operators have said they think the table games will help offset some of the losses by stabilizing the customer base and attracting new gamblers. A ribbon-cutting is planned for 10 a.m. Friday at Wheeling Island's poker room on the gaming center's first floor, near the racetrack..."
