West Virginia Rally Against Casino Rumors30 August 2005WEST VIRGINIA – As reported by the Bluefield Daily Telegraph: "Casino gambling was on the minds of Republicans and opposition forces Monday when a Silent Majority Rally was held at the state capitol. Rick Snuffer, candidate for the Republican nomination for governor, sent word that the rally was quickly organized because there is speculation the Gov. Joe Manchin and the legislative leadership may tie table games (casinos) in with the food tax relief and teacher pay raises. "…He added, 'Shame on leadership if they try to force gambling expansion down the throats of West Virginians under the guise of pay raises and tax relief.' "There has been speculation since last January about a forthcoming proposal for casino gambling but no official statements confirming the reports. Rumor is that Bluefield is one of the sites in West Virginia that some gambling companies think would be ideal for a location and they're willing to invest a large amount of money…" |
