West Virginia Lottery under fire13 June 2007WEST VIRGINIA -- As reported by the Wheeling Intelligencer: "The W.Va. Lottery Commission's business is to bring in as much money as possible from legalized gambling. "...On the other hand, the business of the Problem Gamblers Help Network of West Virginia is to assist people who find themselves in trouble because of gambling — to help wean them away from what can become an addiction. "It costs about $1.5 million a year to operate the network — and the money comes from the Lottery Commission. "...But last week, the outgoing director of the network, Mia Moran-Cooper, accused the lottery commission of interfering with the network. "Lottery Director John Musgrave immediately asked for an investigation of Moran-Cooper's allegations. Gov. Joe Manchin agrees that such a probe is needed..." |
