West Virginia Lottery to Support Ordinance

WEST VIRGINIA – As reported by the Charleston Daily: "The West Virginia Lottery Commission has reconsidered its position and has decided to give Kanawha County more support in enforcing its Video Lottery Establishment Ordinance.

"John Melton, the lottery's general counsel, said his agency has sent letters to two establishments with state-licensed gambling machines giving them 10 days to show cause why they should not shut down.

"County officials contend that both of those businesses, Mary K's in Cross Lanes and The III Pharoah's near Nitro, have violated the ordinance the county commissioners passed last year to prohibit gambling venues from opening too close to each other or to schools, churches, residences and certain other buildings.

"…County Commissioner Kent Carper said he is 'extremely pleased' that the Lottery Commission has changed its stance…"
