West Virginia gambling expansion debate begins again

8 February 2007

CHARLESTON, West Virginia – As reported by the West Virginia State Journal: "The House Judiciary Committee may take up the issue of table games at West Virginia racetracks as early as Feb. 8.

"It would be the first time any delegates will have had the opportunity to discuss the issue officially even though it has been debated in the legislative halls for three years.

"The table games bill -- House Bill 2718 and Senate Bill 369 -- would give residents in the four counties with racetracks the ability to vote on whether to allow the addition of casino-style table games to the racing and video lottery gambling already available at the tracks.

"…An organization has been created to fight any gambling expansion -- West Virginia Values Coalition -- and many religious leaders have joined together to urge lawmakers to vote against the table games bill…"
