West Virginia County Wants More Control8 January 2004PARKERSBURG, West Virginia – As reported by the Parkersburg News & Sentinel: "Wood County commissioners are enlisting the aid of local legislators in attempting to change state code so counties can have authority to control where video lottery establishments locate in unincorporated areas. "County officials said they are concerned about the growing number of these mini-casinos and have received numerous complaints from residents who don't want the establishments near schools, churches, recreation or residential areas. "…The only location restriction, under the state's Alcohol and Beverage Control Commission regulations, is a requirement there be 300 feet from a gaming parlor to a church or school. Residences are not considered. "Commissioners have contacted local legislators asking their assistance in getting the code changed…" |
