West Virginia County Signs Resolution24 August 2005WHEELING, West Virginia – As reported by the Wheeling Register: "Ohio County commissioners signed a resolution in support of local option table gambling legislation in the West Virginia Legislature. "Since the measure didn't even make it to a vote of the Legislature during the last regular session, local representatives have hoped the measure would be included in a proposed special legislative session this fall. As of yet, no agenda has been announced for that session, though legislators believe pay raises for teachers and reductions in the state food tax will be discussed. "During a short statement before the passage of the resolution, Commission President David Sims said legislators from local districts requested approval of the resolution and that it be forwarded to Gov. Joe Manchin's office in Charleston. He said the Hancock County Commission recently passed a similar resolution. "…Afterward, Sims said he believes the people of Ohio County deserve the right to vote on the table gambling issue…" |
