West Virginia County Holds Public Meetings

WEST VIRGINIA – As reported by the Weston Democrat: "Rather than take a vote on whether to include the casino gambling issue on November's ballot, Lewis County Commissioners voted to first hold three meetings to allow for more public input.

"Commissioners Robert J. Conley and Sam Hicks voted to hold the meetings to allow The Mountaineer Group to better present their side of the gaming issue. Local resident Lowell Davis, representative for the investment group, has asked in the past to have the gaming question on the general election ballot, but no vote has been taken. Davis was not present for Tuesday's vote.

"…Though the details of the meetings have yet to be worked out, Hicks said The Mountaineer Group will be invited to give their side and answer questions. Conley agreed that the meetings could help them to understand a little better how the public feels on the issue.

"…Meetings are planned for Jane Lew, Weston and Walkersville sometime between mid-July and mid-August…"
