West Virginia City Amends Video Lottery Ordinance

PARKERSBURG, West Virginia – As reported by the (Parkersburg, West Virginia) News and Sentinel: "City council Tuesday amended a video lottery ordinance to exempt businesses that have filed a lottery commission application by Feb. 20 from the stricter rules.

"The unamended legislation would have prohibited establishments not in operation when the ordinance takes effect from within 1,500 feet of schools, churches, residential areas and other casinos regardless of the status of their application with the state.

"Council adopted the amended bill after a motion by Councilman Ed Roedersheimer died for lack of a second to reduce the distance requirements to 1,000 feet from schools and churches and 600 feet from residential areas, other casinos, museums, parks and libraries.

"…No one seconded the motion, then Roedersheimer moved the exception for businesses that have applied to the lottery commission by Feb. 20…"
