West Virginia casino legislation to be introduced

WEST VIRGINIA – As reported by the Charleston Gazette: "A slow starting legislative session may heat up by the end of next week, when proponents of casino-style gambling introduce their legislation.

"'Hopefully we'll have it by the end of next week,' said John Cavacini, chief lobbyist for the effort by the four state racetracks to legalize table games at their facilities.

"…Senate President Earl Ray Tomblin, D-Logan, made it clear the legislation would have to pass the House of Delegates before the Senate would consider it. Last year, the Senate passed a bill allowing casino gambling, but it failed to gain support in the House.

"…Several lawmakers opposed to table games have said they would consider voting in favor of it if they knew it was going to pass anyway and it included fraternal organizations…"
