West Virginia Appeal Court Upholds Lottery, Grant Awards17 October 2003CHARLESTON, West Virginia – As reported by the Associated Press: "The state Supreme Court cleared the way today for the state to sell long-awaited bonds by affirming the work of the Economic Development Grant Committee and the legality of the state's poker-style video lottery machines. "The five justices voted unanimously to reject a multi-prong challenge by Jackson County lawyer Larry Harless against both the constitutionality of `limited' video lottery and the $225 million in grants approved by the committee in August to 48 projects in 27 counties, a source told the Associated Press. "…Lottery proceeds fund school construction, senior programs and the PROMISE college scholarship program…" |
