Wave of Violence Puts Casino Clubs in Doubt

ELBOURNE, Australia -- As reported by the Australian: "The future of nightclubs in Australia's largest entertainment complex, Crown in Melbourne, has been threatened by yet another violent incident over the weekend.

"Two policemen were forced to use capsicum spray after security staff called them to subdue two men who had been evicted from the Next Blue nightclub early yesterday morning. The spray wafted back into the nightclub through the main entrance and affected about a dozen patrons inside.

"They required treatment with an eyewash by paramedics at the scene.

"The incident joins a list of stabbings, bashings and assaults in the early hours of the morning in the casino precinct, including the stabbing death of a young man in nearby Whiteman Street during the Commonwealth Games last month.

"...Crown management has already moved to reduce the number of nightclubs in the complex..."
