Waterloo Cashes in on Casino

WATERLOO, Iowa – As reported by the KWWL TV: "The money is in the bank. The owner of a new casino in Waterloo paid out two big checks on Thursday before any dirt has been moved to build the casino.

"With a swipe of the pen by Isle of Capri's CEO and Chairman of the Board Bernie Goldstein, $2.5 million head to the Black Hawk County Gaming Association. Don Hoth is with the association and says, 'This is the first step in bringing money back in the area. When we started this project four years ago, the idea was to provide property tax relief, capital improvements, and charitable contributions and the $3.5 million by the Isle of Capri is the first step in that process.'

"$1.5 million will go towards downtown revitalization.

"…Also banking big bucks is the city of Waterloo. Mayor Tim Hurley accepted a $1 million check as part of the casino's deal to come to Waterloo…"
