Washington Tribe Gets Support for Casino10 February 2004TACOMA, Washington – As reported by the Tacoma News Tribune: "The Puyallup Tribe of Indians on Monday gained the support of the Port of Tacoma in efforts to build a third casino on reservation land. "In return, the tribe will remove its objection to the port's proposed closure of Alexander Avenue, necessary for development of a $210 million container terminal on Blair Waterway. "…Opening of a third casino must be approved by Gov. Gary Locke. "The location of a third Puyallup Tribe casino - and the possible closure and relocation of the Emerald Queen - is under study, said Puyallup Tribal Chairman Bill Sterud on Monday. "…The port-tribe agreement, while not offering a deadline, urges that the tribe 'diligently pursue the relocation of its casino operations from Alexander Avenue to another location.'…" |
