Washington State Minicasinos Dealt Losing Hand

WASHINGTON STATE – As reported by the Washington News Tribune: "The state Court of Appeals has ruled that Pierce County can maintain its ban on minicasinos in unincorporated neighborhoods.

"The decision, issued Monday and posted on the appellate court's Web site Tuesday, rejected a challenge by Paradise Village Bowl & Casino, a Parkland business that sued the county over a 1999 ordinance adopted by the County Council.

"In its unanimous decision, a three-judge panel dismissed Paradise Village's arguments that the ordinance violated its property rights. The judges agreed that the county's ban was a legitimate use of police power under state law.

"…For now, the decision means Paradise Village, which also runs bowling and restaurant operations, must stop its gaming activity…"
