Washington Slot Initiative Promises Tax Relief

YAKIMA, Washington – As reported by the KIMA 29 News: "An initiative on the November ballot is promising property tax relief, by allowing slot machines in non-tribal casinos.

"Supporters say if approved, Initiative 892 it will raise millions of dollars in revenue. But critics question whether the measure will be the break taxpayers are hoping for.

"Those against I-892 say the money raised by allowing the machines in non-tribal gaming facilities will only benefit corporations outside Washington state.

"…Indian tribes are among the groups opposed to I-892. Yakama nation leaders say through Legends Casino, they have given back to the community by donating money to local police and fire departments.

"…Critics also say any tax relief will mostly benefit out of state companies who provide establishments with the slots…"
