Washington counties respond to casino proposal25 April 2007WASHINGTON – As reported by the Columbian: "Vancouver believes the Cowlitz Tribe should look north to other casino sites closer to the tribe's population. "Clark County argues the tribe needs to provide more rationale for why a business park is not a viable alternative to a large casino west of La Center. "And La Center says it's 'patently incorrect' to conclude the city can afford to lose 66 percent in gambling taxes from its four nontribal cardrooms, more than $2 million annually. "Those three local governments submitted comments this week on a preliminary version of the final environmental impact statement for the Cowlitz casino. "The report, prepared by Analytical Environmental Services of Sacramento, Calif., under the supervision of the Bureau of Indian Affairs' Portland office, was circulated to local governments last month. The consultant will work with federal officials to review the comments submitted before Monday's deadline before issuing a final environmental impact statement later this year…" |
