Washington City Plans Casino Vote

KENMORE, Washington – As reported by the Seattle Times: "For five years, Kenmore has wrestled with the same dilemma — whether the city of 19,000 should continue to allow gambling within its boundaries.

"…The council, on a 5-2 vote this week, directed city staff members to start the process of putting the issue on the ballot next fall. It's unclear what form such a measure would take or whether it would be on the September or November ballot. A city ordinance would have to be passed in order to make the decision final.

"…[Mayor Steven] Colwell said he didn't want to make a habit of pushing issues to a public vote, but the gambling question is as unsettled in the council chambers as it is in the community at large…"
