Washington City Delays Cardroom Vote

KENMORE, Washington – As reported by the Seattle Times: "The Kenmore City Council last night delayed a vote on banning cardrooms in the city, allowing a moratorium that prohibits cardrooms to expire Thursday.

"The delay means potential cardroom operators may apply for a permit, but if the council decides to ban cardrooms, any new permits would be good only through the end of the year, said Stephen Anderson, Kenmore city manager.

"However, council members at last night's study-session meeting said they wanted to make sure residents had timely and proper notification that they planned to vote on the issue. The council will take the issue up at its regular meeting at 7 p.m. Monday at the Northshore Utility District office, 6830 N.E. 185th St.

"…Next week's vote could bring to a close the city's controversial debate over allowing social cardrooms in the city…"
