W. Virginia counties vote for table games

CROSS LANES, West Virginia -- As reported by the West Virginia Herald-Dispatch: "Voters in West Virginia's Jefferson and Ohio counties have already determined if they will permit table games at their local gaming centers, and Hancock County voters will decide later this month.

"Meanwhile, Kanawha County voters have until August to decide whether the county will have table games, and along with them, a $250 million expansion project at Tri-State Racetrack and Gaming Center in Cross Lanes, W.Va. Owners plan for that expansion to turn the center, which is about a half-hour away from Huntington, into a destination resort.

"The debate over whether to permit the table games -- poker, blackjack and others -- has focused on several issues. On the one side are the prospects of increased tourism, the creation of jobs and more money for state and local government coffers.

"...The vote in Kanawha County was delayed because of a mishap in the filing by the Kanawha County Clerk's office, said Cathy Brackbill, general manager at the gaming center..."
