Visually impaired Delaware Park employee receives award1 November 2015(PRESS RELEASE) -- Often referred to as “Mighty Mouse” for her enthusiasm and perseverance, Delaware Park Racetrack, Slots and Golf's senior environmental worker Linda Rieker recently received the Community Employment Placement of the Year award from the Delaware Division for the Visually Impaired (DVI). The first Celebrations of Champions event, held at Dover Downs Hotel & Casino, also honored White Cane Day, World Blindness Awareness Month and National Disability Employment Awareness Month. Known for her quick pace, high energy and motivation, Rieker has been employed by Delaware Park for more than five years, and her strengths led to her promotion to senior environmental worker. Her passion to work after years of unemployment sparked after receiving generous assistance from the DVI Vocational Rehabilitation staff. The award, presented by Delaware Park’s DVI representative, Loretta Harper-Brown, pays tribute to Rieker’s contagious positive attitude and work ethic. “Linda is a self-starting role model who takes appropriate customer service risk and gains exceptional results, while maintaining a strong sense of pride and joy,” says Bill Fasy, President of Delaware Park. “She is a valued employee who consistently makes recommendations to improve our grave shift team. Linda’s integrity and relentless ability to keep herself and her team motivated during late hours deserves recognition and honor.” Delaware Park has collaborated with the Delaware Division for the Visually Impaired for more than five years, hiring three of their recommended applicants. In addition, Delaware Park was recognized during DVI’s White Cane Day in 2013. DVI looks forward to strengthening their partnership with Delaware Park in the future. |
