Virginia Wins with Mega Millions

17 November 2005

RICHMOND, Virginia – (PRESS RELEASE) -- Even though the $315 million jackpot winning ticket was not purchased in the Commonwealth, Virginians were big winners in the November 15 Mega Millions drawing. A total of 145,422 Mega Millions tickets purchased in Virginia won prizes in the November 15 drawing.

Even more importantly, the Mega Millions jackpot run that ended with the November 15 drawing raised nearly $14.8 million for Virginia's K-12 public schools. That is the amount of profit earned by the $32.8 million in Mega Millions tickets sold in Virginia between September 16, when the previous Mega Millions jackpot was won, until 10:45 pm on Tuesday, November 15.

"Every person who purchased a Mega Millions ticket in Virginia contributed to that total, whether or not their ticket won a prize," said Virginia Lottery Interim Executive Director Donna M. VanCleave.

The number of winning tickets in Virginia includes one ticket that won $250,000. It matched the first five winning numbers and only missed the Mega Ball number. That ticket was purchased in Cana, at the Lucky Horseshoe, 16361 Fancy Gap Highway.

Another six tickets in Virginia each won $10,000. Those tickets matched five numbers, including the Mega Ball. They were purchased at:

* 7-Eleven, 11 S. Nansemond Street, Richmond

* 7-Eleven, 327 Manassas Drive, Manassas Park

* Sunoco, 4647 West Ox Road, Fairfax

* Fas Mart, 5200 Hull Street Road, Richmond

* Dominion Market, 1201 S. Courthouse Road, Arlington

* 7-Eleven, 2704 N. Washington Boulevard, Arlington

All Virginia Lottery profits go to K-12 public school education in the Commonwealth. In fiscal year 2005, the Lottery turned over more than $423 million for education.
