Virginia tax employee faces sports gambling ring charges

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Virginia -- As reported by The Washington Post: "An employee in Fairfax County's Department of Tax Administration was arrested in her office at the county government center Thursday and charged with running a sports gambling operation.

"Police searched both the home and office of Diane Thanh Diep Tran, 28, of the 6500 block of White Post Road in Centreville and charged her with conducting an illegal gambling operation and money laundering. Officer Don Gotthardt declined to provide specifics about the type of gambling or how many people might have been involved, and said that the investigation into the case was continuing.

"Tran worked as an administrative assistant for the county for about four years and did not have access to cash or refunds, Gotthardt said. Kevin Greenlief, director of the county tax department, said Tran was an entry-level employee whose main task was data entry. She was placed on restricted duty yesterday, Greenlief said..."
