Virginia City Council Hold Session on OTB Plans

MANASSAS, Virginia – As reported by the Potomac News: "…At a Manassas Park City Council business meeting Tuesday, city staff members will present a report on the horse racing company Colonial Downs.

"The New Kent-based company wants to open an off-track betting facility in the city. It gathered more than the necessary 248 signatures, or 5 percent of registered voters, to let the voters decide in a Nov. 2 referendum whether to allow the company to open a Manassas Park operation.

"…City staff members have interviewed their counterparts in the six other Virginia jurisdictions with off-track Colonial Downs facilities. The council will not vote or take an official position on the matter, but will make public the staff findings on the facility's potential impact on city traffic, finances and quality of life…"
