Vigilance Best Weapon Against Casino Theft

ATLANTIC CITY, New Jersey – As reported by the Press of Atlantic City: "Some gamblers are losing money at the casinos, but not to the dealers and slot machines.

"A robber is on the loose.

"…But gamblers can take certain common-sense precautions to help avoid becoming a victim.

"'The most important thing is to be aware of your surroundings. Know who's in the immediate area and what's around you. Watch your belongings,' Division of Gaming Enforcement spokeswoman Kerry Hand said.

"Take the same precautions you would use in any other public place, Hand said. Don't flash large amounts of cash or expensive jewelry. Stick to well-populated areas and avoid being alone.

"If you hit a large jackpot, you can ask the casino to give you a check instead of cash, Hand said. If you do get cash, you can place it in the hotel's safe-deposit box.

"…Atlantic City Police Department spokesman Lt. Michael Tullio added another suggestion: Trust your gut instincts…"
