29 October 2007

LPINE, California -- (PRESS RELEASE) -- Viejas Casino and the Viejas Outlet Center are re-opening for business Saturday, October 27.

The Viejas Band of Kumeyaay Indians had ordered the Viejas Casino and Outlet Center closed earlier this week due to the wildfires. With improving conditions, the Viejas Tribal Council decided to re-open the casino, including all of its restaurants, and the Outlet Center effective at 3pm tomorrow (Saturday, October 27).

During the San Diego County Wildfires, Viejas tribal government has supported relief efforts in the community in the following ways:

* Provided approximately 3,000 meals to evacuation centers in coordination with San Diego Red Cross.

* Opened the casino's Harvest Buffet to firefighters 24/7, with no cost to firefighters for meals. This continued even after the casino was closed to the public.

* Delivered 25 cases of bottled water to the Qualcomm Stadium evacuation center.

* Delivered 45 cases of playing cards to the Qualcomm Stadium evacuation center.

* Made the Viejas Tribal Government Recreation Center available to firefighters for staging and housing.

* Made the casino parking lot available to RVs, semis and other high profile vehicles that were forced off of Highway 8 due to high winds.

* Provided clothing to the evacuation center at Pechanga Resort.

Viejas will continue to provide relief and recovery assistance to the community at the direction of the Viejas Tribal Council.
