Victorian Bettors Lost Over $4.5 Billion

VICTORIA, Australia – As reported by the Adelaide Now: "Victorian punters lost more than $4.5 billion on the pokies at the state's pubs and clubs and at Crown Casino's gaming tables over the past year.

"More than half of that money, almost $2.5 billion, was pushed into electronic gaming machines in hotels and clubs.

"Crown Casino stripped more than $1 billion from gamblers at its own pokies machines and at table games.

"The remainder was lost through sports betting and lotteries, the report of the Victorian Commission for Gambling Regulation (VCGR) revealed today.

"The report, one of hundreds being tabled in parliament this week, reveals $1.5 billion of players' losses went into the treasury through taxes and levies.

"It also shows the amount spent on pokies per Victorian adult is steadily mounting, despite the decreasing number of gaming machines…"
