Victoria Coren Mitchell and Debbie Burkhead selected to Women in Poker Hall of Fame22 May 2016(PRESS RELEASE) -- The Women in Poker Hall of Fame (WiPHoF) is proud to announce Victoria Coren Mitchell and Debbie Burkhead for induction this summer. The WiPHoF Luncheon Celebration & Induction takes place on July 6 at 11 a.m. at Gold Coast Hotel and Casino Ballroom in Las Vegas. This event is sponsored by Card Player Cruises and benefits Poker Gives, a nonprofit charity serving military families in need. Victoria Coren Mitchell began playing poker in her teenage years. She joined in with her brother's friends to be a part of their group and see what they were doing. It seems playing poker has paid off nicely as she has made history by becoming the first two-time winner of one of poker's most prestigious tournaments. Victoria, a writer and TV presenter, took home £391,932 in cash and a watch worth more than £4,000 after overcoming the odds to win the European Poker Tour in San Remo, Italy. She is a former PokerStars Pro and rose from a relative unknown to poker superstar in 2006 when she became the first female winner of the European Poker Tour. She has a lifetime tournament earnings of over $2.4 million in prize money. Victoria is most likely the best known poker player in the U.K. as well as in the media. She is a journalist, television personality, film director and, most recently, a wife and mother. She is the first European to be inducted into the WiPHoF. Debbie Burkhead began her poker career as both a player and writer in the 1990s. She began writing for Pokerpages.com and worked as an editor at Poker Digest for a brief time until it was sold. She penned a bi-monthly column called “Debbie Does Poker” that ran for more than 10 years in Poker Player Newspaper. Debbie frequently reported on various ladies events around the country, and promoted ladies tournaments in her writings. In 2003 she began her career as a sales rep for Poker Player Newspaper, and was promoted to National Sales Director in 2009, where she was responsible for the supervision of six sales associates throughout the United States. Debbie also co-founded Poker Player Cruises in 2010 and served as President until 2013. Debbie has proven to be a well-rounded tournament player with close to $200,000 in cashes including 1st place titles in Limit Hold’em, No-limit Hold’em, Seven Card Stud and HORSE. In 2002 she took the Best-All-Around title at the Peppermill, has finished in the money in four WSOP events: No-limited Hold’em Six Handed, Seven Card Stud High/Low, the Senior event and the Ladies event. Debbie also won the LIPS National Championship in 2007 and has been on the Board of Directors of the Women in Poker Hall of Fame since 2008. Debbie currently works in the position of Eastern Sales Rep for Ante Up Magazine. Her dedication to promoting poker in the ladies community has shown throughout the years in both her writings and her accomplishments as a tournament player. The prestigious Women in Poker Hall of Fame, founded in 2008 by Lupe Soto is designed to honor women in poker who have acquired prominence and have made contributions to the poker world.
