Venetian Withdraws Power-Exit Request24 October 2003The Las Vegas Sun LAS VEGAS -- The Venetian on Thursday withdrew from the state Public Utilities Commission its application to leave the Nevada Power Co. electric system and buy its own power. The PUC was scheduled to take up the matter at a hearing on Monday, but a hotel executive in a memo to regulators said the company's plans have been put on hold. As with other applicants that have failed to complete the exit process in recent months, the Venetian cited difficulties in meeting a commission mandate that departing customers buy a percentage of power from plants within the Las Vegas Valley. In September, four large customers, including MGM MIRAGE and Station Casinos, had exit applications denied by state regulators. Soon after, the Palms hotel-casino withdrew its application. No other power customers currently have exit applications pending. |
