Venetian, Palazzo and Sands Expo partner with Three Square for third annual 'Hunger is Not a Game' food drive

23 May 2016

(PRESS RELEASE) -- In honor of World Hunger Day on May 28, Las Vegas Sands Corp. has partnered with local non-profit Three Square Food Bank to hold the third-annual "Hunger is Not a Game" food drive, May 20 to June 20.

The month-long team member initiative, part of the company's Sands ECO360 and Sands Cares programs, will culminate with an innovative "Can Construction" challenge, pitting departments against one another to build a piece of artwork with the cans collected.

This year's collection goal for team members is 17,000 food items to commemorate the 17th anniversary of The Venetian Las Vegas, which opened on May 3, 1999. Last year's goal was to collect 16,000 food items and that number was more than exceeded. Team members collected 30,254 food items and it's estimated that this donation helped to distribute 25,000 meals for those in need in the Las Vegas community.

Last year's "Can Construction" event was such a success, that Sands ECO360 is challenging the departments of The Venetian Las Vegas, The Palazzo Resort Hotel Casino, and Sands Expo to another can construction. Last year, 12 departments participated in the exercise that centered around the theme of "The Venetian." This year, participants will conceptualize and create artwork using the theme "Sustainable Summer." The friendly competition among company departments will take place mid-June.

Las Vegas Sands Corp. is committed to environmental responsibility by promoting sustainable development, reducing the impact of operations on the natural environment, and enhancing the resort experience of guests as well as the quality of life in the communities where they operate. The company developed the Sands ECO360 strategy as a roadmap for continuous improvement of environmental stewardship.
