Vegas looking to Phoenix area to fill positions7 January 2009PHOENIX, Arizona -- As reported by The Arizona Republic: "Hospitality workers who are finding it hard to find a job or advancement opportunities in the Phoenix area might want to try Las Vegas. "A spate of mega resort hotels set to open there this year will create openings for tens of thousands of workers, and hotel operators are already looking outside the Las Vegas area to make hires. "The $9 billion CityCenter project in Las Vegas is targeting the metro Phoenix area to fill more than 12,000 jobs needed to staff the 18 million-square-foot development, set to open later this year. "The Valley has tens of thousands of trained hospitality industry employees, and many of them are looking for work due to the ailing economy. "...Alan Feldman, senior vice president at CityCenter developer MGM Mirage, said that new Las Vegas hotels have traditionally looked to Arizona and Southern California for the huge numbers of workers needed to staff the massive operations. "...MGM Mirage expects to receive more than 100,000 applications for CityCenter and could get many more than that due to the ailing national economy. More than 10,000 people filled out online applications on Monday, the first day.
