Utah Shoppers Pick Up Slot Machines20 December 2004UTAH – As reported by the Salt Lake Tribune: "The slot machine's bells and whistles seemed to scream 'buy me' at Salt Lake City resident Jeff Walker as he fed tokens into the top of one of the noisy contraptions. "…Walker was among hundreds of Utah residents shopping over the weekend at the Utah State Fairpark Zion building for an 'entertainment-only' slot machine. A Southern California-based company called Direct Gaming International (DGI) trucked in about 900 of the used casino machines Friday. They sold like hot cakes. "According to DGI representative Butch Overbaugh, more than two-thirds of the games were sold by Saturday afternoon. The machines, which cost between $159 and $1,795, were on sale through Sunday. Fewer than 100 remained by 2 p.m. "Overbaugh said several shoppers bought as many as five of the gaming machines. The games, he said, can't be used as gambling devices because they won't accept real money…" |
