US Justices Reject Appeal in Indian Gambling Cases

``Without comment, the justices declined to review U.S. appeals court rulings in one case involving the Santee Sioux Tribe of Nebraska, and another case involving two tribes from Oklahoma and one from Wyoming. The electronic devices at issue in both cases resembled slot machines, the government said.

``The appeals courts ruled that a federal law does not prohibit the tribes from offering the devices, called the "Magical Irish Instant Bingo Dispenser System" and the "Lucky Tab II."

``The high court's action, which did not amount to a ruling on the merits of the case, but only was a refusal to review the dispute, provided an immediate boost to manufacturers of electronic gaming devices, including companies that were not involved as a party in either of the two cases…"
