Unified Government rejects Sands casino proposal4 April 2008KANSAS -- As reported by the Kansas City Business Journal: "Commissioners for the Unified Government of Wyandotte County/Kansas City, Kan., rebuffed by a 9-1 vote a proposal for a $777 million casino proposal at a meeting Thursday night. "The proposal, by Las Vegas Sands Corp., was similar in site and design to a proposal Sands submitted last year and the Unified Government denied because of location. But state lottery officials then changed their reading of the rules, saying proposals only needed local endorsement before going on to a Lottery Gaming Facility Review Board on May 27, and Sands submitted new proposals for Kansas City, Kan., and Edwardsville. "...The Unified Government already endorsed three proposals, and Edwardsville endorsed one. The Sands plans are the only ones that lack local endorsement..." |
