UK TV companies cash in on new law

UNITED KINGDOM -- As reported by the UK Financial Mail: "TV companies are set to scoop the jackpot next month, with gaming groups queueing up to put their adverts on air for the first time.

"Strong demand for the spots --allowed from September 1 by the Gambling Act - means a multimillion pound windfall for broadcasters suffering poor advertising sales.

"Among the gambling firms lining up to hit the TV screens are Party Bingo, Sunbingo, Party Poker, Full Tilt, Cyber Bingo, Foxy Bingo, Gala Bingo, National Bingo, Betfair, Poker Stars and the National Lottery. Some of the more established bookmakers, such as Ladbrokes, aim to launch campaigns in October.

"The National Lottery and bingo have been able to advertise on TV for some time, but they are expected to boost their advertising spend to compete with online gambling providers.

"As a result, television advertising revenue for September is set to grow by nine% compared with the same month last year. TV companies, which had expected to see advertising income fall this year, now believe 2007 revenue will be up one% on last year at about £3.35bn..."
