UK Treasury Could Ruin Gambling Plans

UNITED KINGDOM – As reported by the New Media Zero: "The Treasury could wreck the Government's wider efforts to attract online casinos to the UK, despite the warm welcome given to the Gambling Bill.

"Rumours have been circulating around the gambling industry that the Government will introduce a 15% tax on gross profits for online casinos, as is already the case for bingo and bookmakers. However, this has been criticised as unworkable by those in the industry.

"…At the moment operators in Alderney, such as SkyBetVegas and Rank Interactive, pay 0% tax, while the likes of Littlewoods in Curaçao pay a small corporation tax.

"Tax is becoming a central issue for offshore casinos considering a move back into the UK. Although most of the mainstream ones are willing to pay some tax to get a UK licence, the level at which it's charged is critical…"
