UK MP pushes for more casinos

COVENTRY, England – As reported by This is London: "Labour MP was accused today of acting as a 'stalking horse' for the Government by proposing an increase in the number of regional casinos.

"Jim Cunningham (Coventry S) tried to raise the limit in a backbench Bill from one to eight.

"But his bid was scuppered by 240 votes to 55, majority 185, amid fierce Tory opposition.

"Julie Kirkbride (C Bromsgrove), opposing the Gambling Act 2005 (Amendment) Bill, said the MP's aim was to test opinion on behalf of ministers as to whether there was an appetite for more casinos than laid down in legislation…"
