UK Government Warned Over Unlimited Payout Machines6 December 2004UNITED KINGDOM – As reported by the Scotsman: "Tougher measures are needed to tackle potential problems with unlimited payout Category A gaming machines, the Government was warned today. "Liberal Democrat Alistair Carmichael said the Gambling Bill – carried over from the last session – gave ministers powers to tackle problems caused by Category D machines – such as penny slides. "…The Category A machines would allow gamblers to place unlimited stakes for unlimited prize money unless casinos set a limit. They are not currently legal in the UK but would be permitted under the Bill which would allow huge Las Vegas-style casinos to open. "…Richard Caborn, the minister responsible for gambling licensing, said the Government had limited the number of new regional casinos to eight in response to MPs' concerns…" |
