UK Gambling Chief Resigns15 February 2005UNITED KINGDOM – As reported by the UK Guardian: "The man appointed to spearhead Britain's gambling industry has resigned after just seven months in the post following the culture secretary Tessa Jowell's U-turn on the expansion of casinos. "Derek Jeffrey, a former senior MoD official, was appointed in July as chief executive of the British Casino Association to head the expected boom under the gambling bill. "…His departure followed the fall in value of several leading British companies such as Rank and Stanley Leisure, caused by new government restrictions on casino expansion and on gaming machines…" |
